Graduates can therefore work in the profession of architecture throughout the European Union. Architecture and Landscape themeThe Academy aims to establish a clear link with actual spatial assignments in the Northern region of the Netherlands in the courses. Design assignments are selected specifically in which a systematic reflection (design research) is possible on the relationship between the building and its environment. This theme, also called ‘Architecture and Landscape’, will also be discussed in various theoretical classes and laboratories. The zigzagged form allowed us to create large unobstructed floors and made it possible to have all of the laboratories and offices overlook the courtyards. It also allows for additional wings should more space be required in the future. An Exceptional TeamHOLT is the result of our vision on building and living in healthy cities and neighborhoods, and provides impetus for the economic and social development of the area around the Martini Hospital. We’re proud that, together with this exceptional team, we can contribute to the healthiest city in the Netherlands. The Academy of Architecture itself is multiform and does not impose opinions. By taking this approach, it recognises the multiformity of the profession. In fact, the clash between different opinions and design methods is essential to the Academy’s study climate! An essential aspect of studying at the Academy of Architecture is the direct contact between teacher and student. The fact that the Groningen Academy of Architecture operates on quite a small-scale is an important condition for this individualistic approach. Students are given a large degree of freedom and personal responsibility to determine their direction within the profession. The studio has been a wildcard entry into the 2006 design competition for Forum Groningen, thanks to the support of city architect Niek Verdonk. Despite being pitted against the likes of Zaha Hadid Architects and UNStudio, it came out top. At its heart of the building is an elaborate multi-level atrium where the public will be encouraged to meet, work and spend time. In Interieur architect , you will learn to formulate your own design assignment and test your design methods. You will engage in discussions with users, research materials and immerse yourself in utopias. For HOLT’s construction, we aim for maximum circularity by reusing building materials, building demountable structures, and by using cross-laminated timber structures where we can – a sustainable and carbon sequestering material. A quarterly newsletter rounding up a selection of recently launched products by designers and studios, published on Dezeen Showroom. "The roof terrace, with its 360 view over the city, is a huge magnet. But things will settle down and hopefully soon we will be able to see if it really works." Although it had 200,000 visitors in its first two weeks, NL Architects plans to monitor it closely to ensure it becomes an active public space, as intended. Therefore, when a student is capable of giving more than one answer to the question posed, – in other words – if he is also capable of giving it an exciting interpretation in his design, then it becomes interesting. In cases like these, the final results can also be important outside the educational context, for example as regards the practice and discipline. Two of them take 7 to 8 weeks and focus especially on the phase in which a bearing idea (concept) becomes an architectonic object, in terms of space, material and technique. The emphasis lies on the ‘practical’ design research; the designs are worked out in detail. The assignments for these ateliers have a more urban oriented character. One atelier each year takes 15 weeks and focuses especially on the phase preceding a design. Furthermore, the structure is also designed in such a way that it can absorb and withstand the vibrations of Groningen earthquakes. Additionally, the SuperHub’s flexible design allows it to fulfill a wide array of functions and activities, such as community gatherings. During your master’s, you will work on real-world projects that address societal and organisational challenges. Through hands-on research, you will create innovative solutions that make a difference.Assuming a theme derived from the main assignment, a more theoretical approach to the issue is linked to the design. Based on more ‘theoretical’ research a (speculative) architectural design proposal (concept) is developed. In this case the assignment has often a more rural oriented (be more oriented on landscape) character. All atelier assignments are, on the basis of more permanent learning objectives, renewed each year. This continuous updating of the curriculum corresponds to questions and discussions that come up in professional practice. Interieur architect partDuring the 4-year study the students develop their professional position and responsabilities and tasks in the architectural firm where they work.
